Gangs Get Ready To Rumble In Trailer For Philip Kaufman's Newly Restored 'The Wanderers'

In 1979, “The Warriors” wasn’t the only movie to open depicting the rough-and-tumble lives of gang members on the streets of New York. While not quite establishing the same level of cult fervor, Philip Kaufman‘s “The Wanderers” had its own share of colorful characters in a slightly more comedic take on the gritty clashes between varying factions in the Bronx. And now, the film from the legendary director is getting another chance to shine in a new restoration from Kino Lorber.

Based on the debut novel by Richard Price (“The Night Of,” “Clockers,” “The Wire“), shot by Michael Chapman (“Taxi Driver,” “Raging Bull“) and starring Ken Wahl, Karen Allen, Linda Manz, John Friedrich, Toni Kalem, Alan Rosenberg, Jim Youngs, Tony Ganios, Dolph Sweet, Michael Wright, Val Avery, Olympia Dukakis and Erland van Lidth de Jeude, the story centers around the titular Italian-American gang in the summer of 1963, a sunnier time before the end of the decade, when things in the country took a darker turn.

No word on the release plans for the 2K restoration, but we’ll keep our ear to the ground. In the meantime, check out the fresh trailer.
