Gareth Edwards Talks Krennic In 'Rogue One,' Daisy Ridley Teases Rey's Parents For 'Episode VIII'

We are now less than two months away from the release of “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” and it will mark a couple of interesting moments. The film will put months of rumors about its rough production to bed as fans react to the first “Star Wars” spinoff movie, while it will also likely kick off the start of the promotion for Rian Johnson‘s “Star Wars: Episode VIII” which arrives next year. And a couple of pieces of intel have dropped for both movies.

Over at USA Today, director Gareth Edwards shared a couple of details about Ben Mendelsohn‘s character Director Orson Krennic, and where he finds himself after rising through the ranks of the Empire “through sheer force of personality and ideas.”

“[He] hits a brick wall in the hierarchy where they won’t let him in the club, and it’s going to turn into a them-or-us situation: either Krennic or [Grand Moff] Tarkin and the others,” he explains. And that’s a pretty neat element to give the villain, one who has a chip on his shoulder and is driven to prove himself to those above him.

Meanwhile, Rey’s parents continue to be a source of great speculation, but Daisy Ridley suggests we’ll be finding out who they may be in ‘Episode VIII,’ and she addresses the chatter that Jyn Erso from ‘Rogue One’ is her character’s Mom.

“I mean, I think historically it wouldn’t work, because Darth Vader is there … so she would ultimately be my great-grandma; no, she would be my grandma,” the actress told Vulture. “I mean it could happen, especially in a galaxy far, far away.”

Okay, but what about the possibility that Rey is related to Obi-Wan Kenobi?  “We will see in a year,” she said. “Just sit tight on that question.”
