One of the most exciting and mysterious movies coming this fall is “Blade Runner 2049.” While it boasts a big budget and a starry ensemble — Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Robin Wright, Dave Bautista, Ana de Armas, Mackenzie Davis, Sylvia Hoeks, and Barkhad Abdi — the plot is being kept secret. All we know is that large collar enthusiast Officer K, played by Gosling, tracks down Ford’s Rick Deckard, for reasons yet to be revealed. But frankly, “Blade Runner 2049” is looking like a movie we can watch with the sound off.
Denis Villeneuve sits in the director’s chair for the follow-up to Ridley Scott‘s classic, and the movie, which already looked flat out gorgeous in the trailers so far, continues to look like dazzling eye candy in this new featurette. That said, the filmmaker is ready to accept the criticism if the movie misses the mark.
“Ryan Gosling and I made peace with the idea that the chances of success were very narrow,” he told THR. “I came on board because the script was very strong. But no matter what you do, no matter how good what you’re doing is, the film will always be compared to the first, which is a masterpiece. So I made peace with that. And when you make piece with that, you are free.”
We’ll see the results when “Blade Runner 2049” opens on October 7th.
