The Marvel Cinematic Universe has never reached the grim, furrowed brow darkness of their DC Films counterparts, but “Thor” and “Thor: The Dark World” perhaps represent the closest the brand has come to humorlessness. But that all changes with “Thor: Ragnarok,” as director Taika Waititi (“What We Do In The Shadows,” “Hunt For The Wilderpeople“) brings his lively spirit to the proceedings.
The third Thor adventure adds plenty of new faces with Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum, and Tessa Thompson joining in on the fun, while fellow Avenger Mark Ruffalo takes a significant co-starring role, in what’s been described as something close to a buddy/road movie. Here’s the official synopsis:
In Marvel Studios’ ‘Thor: Ragnarok’, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok — the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization — at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger — the Incredible Hulk!
“Thor: Ragnarok” opens on November 3rd.
