No Press Screeners For 'Game Of Thrones' Season 7

Don’t worry, this post won’t turn into a sob story about not being able to see “Game Of Thrones” early. Critics are lucky enough to see anything in advance, and we also understand why some TV networks want to keep their biggest shows under wraps so everyone can experience them at the same time. Showtime did it with the return of “Twin Peaks,” and now HBO is once again ensuring that “Game Of Thrones” stays as fresh as possible for its season seven premiere.

Collider revealed that HBO won’t be sending critics screeners for “Game Of Thrones” season seven, just as they did for season six. This is hardly a surprise during a time when Netflix was breached and saw the new season of “Orange Is The New Black” land online well in advance of its premiere. This all started at HBO when the first four episodes of season five leaked. From then on, they kept the show under tight lock-and-key.

Will it make it harder for outlets to do recaps and advance coverage of the show? Certainly. But at the same time, it’s not like “Game Of Thrones” needs any more awareness than it already has, and the show’s creators must really like being in the position where they can dictate what they will and won’t reveal about the next run of episodes. In fact, we do know that season seven will have both the longest and shortest ‘Thrones’ episodes ever: nearly 90 minutes, and as short as 50 minutes.
