'Heathers' TV Anthology Series Greenlit At TV Land, 'Bachelorette' Helmer Leslye Headland To Direct

TV Land is getting into the reboot game with an anthology series based on the cult 80s film, “Heathers.” According to The Hollywood Reporter, TV Land has ordered a pilot for a “Heathers” TV series to be written by Jason Micallef (who penned Jennifer Garner/Hugh Jackman starrer “Butter”) and directed by Leslye Headland, who wrote and directed “Bachelorette” and “Sleeping With Other People.”

The series will be a modern day reboot of Michael Lehmann’ teen classic, which tells the story of a girl and her boyfriend as they go experience high school that’s dominated by not-so-nice, popular students, all named Heather. However, in the new version, instead of cookie cutter Barbie doll-esque Heathers, the series will focus on a much more diverse group including a black lesbian Heather, a gender queer Heather, and a Heather that is described in the THR report as having “a body like Martha Dumptruck.”

Following in the successful footsteps of series like “American Horror Story” and “Fargo,” “Heathers” will be an anthology series. Each season will tell a new story, in a new setting, with a new group of Heathers. Production of the pilot is expected to begin this Fall.
