'Hidden Figures,' 'Westworld' And, Yes, 'La La Land' Win At Art Directors Guild Awards

The Art Directors Guild held their 21st Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards on Saturday night and outside of a “La La Land” win in Contemporary Film there were a number of surprises.

Hidden Figures” and the incredibly under appreciated Wynn Thomas, who did not earn an Oscar nod for Best Production Design, took the Period Design honor over “Hail, Caesar!,” “Hacksaw Ridge” and “Jackie.”  Perhaps even more surprisingly, “Passengers” beat fellow Oscar nominees “Arrival” and “Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them.”  Does that mean it may have a shot at upsetting “La La Land” on Oscar night?  Possibly.

Among the TV categories, “Westworld’s” gorgeous pilot provided an upset win in the One Hour Period or Fantasy Single Camera Series category over “Game of Thrones,” “Stranger Things” and “The Crown,” all series that have dominated the year-end television honors. “Mr. Robot” took the One Hour Contemporary Single Camera Series. Other TV winners included “Mozart in the Jungle,” “The Night Of” and “The Great Indoors.” “Beyonce: Lemonade” took the Awards or Event Special honor.

Here are all of this year’s winners and nominees.
