The Oscars are in six days. Are you as bored as we are?
David Carr started the “If I Ran The Academy” meme listing 1o things you would change in this year’s Oscars if you had magical powers and then Jeff Wells joined in. So the 10 things we would change if We Ran The Academy would go something like this:
2. Kristin Scott Thomas would have secured herself a Best Actress nod for “I’ve Loved You So Long” and been the frontrunner.
3. Benicio del Toro would be a Best Actor nom.
4. Michelle Williams would have been nominated for her performance in “Wendy & Lucy”
5. Bruce Springsteen’s “The Wrestler” song would be nominated for Best Song and might even win.
7. Cinematographer Roger Deakins would be nominated for “Revolutionary Road,” not his half work in “The Reader”
8. Sally Hawkins and Eddie Marsan would have both been nominated (Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor) for their roles in Mike Leigh’s “Happy Go Lucky.”
9. Either Christopher Nolan, Steven Soderbergh or Mike Leigh should have taken Stephen Daldry’s spot in the Best Director category for “The Reader.”
10. “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button” would be relegated to the technical arena only.
