My back really did not want me to interview Action Action. They played in Taunton, MA on September 30, but I had to back out because I couldn't walk and was in extreme pain (I had surgery a few days later). I got the surgery and have since been feeling pretty good, until December 11, when they were playing the Middle East in Cambridge, MA. I was able to walk but my back was damn sore and I figured that about four hours of standing up wouldn't help my cause much. This all led me to send this Email interview which you are about to read.
1. Introduce yourself.
Hello, my name is Mark, I sing, play guitar and synths.
2. Do you feel like you're in a new band? Explain.
Oh yes for sure.
3. Have you ever considered giving up on music?
Every artist has those moments of freak outs where you just aren’t sure why you are doing what you do. Usually something pops into your life that puts it all in perspective. I don’t think I could ever give it up, even if no one was listening.
4. Do you find it odd that, because you're in a band, people want to hear what you have to say?
A bit sometimes…most people in bands have nothing remotely intelligent to say.
5. Myspace-Yay or Nay?
The breakdown of society will be caused by myspace. We have one, however I do not have one personally. It you have a secret that was told to someone in confidence, and they have a myspace, consider it common knowledge.
5. What has been the best record store you've come upon while on tour?
Back in September, we did 2 weeks of in-stores, so we got to shop in a bunch of cool ones. But if I had to choose, I would say Looney Tunes, which is on LI.
6. Name one album, besides your own, that you think all kids should have in their collection.
Nada Surf – Let Go. It’s easily one of the greatest albums released in last 10 years.
7. Name one thing you want for Christmas.
For Christmas to end. I think the whole aspect of spending time with family is great. I’m over the ‘I need to buy you the 60 gig ipod because my love is that strong’ aspect of it.
9. 2005-? (anything that comes to your mind)
We officially release a single and video ("Drug Like"), lots of touring, new music, new merchandise, etc.,…basically more Action Action…
10. Final comments.
Obviously this years’ presidential election was extremely emotionally heated, this is the time to let those emotions out; with turmoil brings great art.
