Its really hot in my room right now, but I'm sure I'd be much hotter if I lived in North Carolina like Code Seven. This interview with them was conducted on July 8 in Providence, RI.

PL: Introduce yourself.

JT: I'm James Tuttle. I play guitar in Code Seven.

PL: Do you think bands are having to change up their style (or "evolve") in order to keep the listeners from getting bored?

JT: Somewhat. I think if bands are smart, they'll try to push themselves further than staying in that one same level than they did on their past records. Its good to evolve. I think that the fans actually don't like the bands to evolve. They have that favorite CD, and for the band to do something different, they're like; "What are you guys doing? What a minute!" But I think its great and healthy for bands to do that. I think its a positive thing.

PL: Do you still listen to any of your old albums? If so, how have your opinions changed between then and now?

JT: Um...

RF: That could include the new album too.

JT: Okay. I think our new record, Dancing Echos/Dead Sounds is probably the most solid record we've ever done. As far as best records, when I go back and listen to Division of Labor, its kind of the last metal thing that we did, its kind of intense, and I love that record. I kind of miss those days of playing metal. I think its a good retrospect.

PL: Whats the best current television show?

JT: I'm never at home, so its hard to say, but I like Family Guy a lot. That and reruns of Mr. Show.

RF: That show is awesome.

JT: That show is amazing.

PL: Whats a big misconception about musicians?

JT: That they do it for the sex, drugs and rock and roll lifestyle, which is totally not true. If you're a true musician, you do it to create music and to push yourself to new boundries. If you are a musician, thats what you do. If you're in it for the sex and drugs, then you're doing something totally different.

PL: Then you don't have enough rock and roll in it?

JT: No, not us. We're ind of boring. We like to play our instruments.

PL: Whats one movie everyone should see?

JT: I would say the new Batman movie ("Batman Begins"). I saw it in Seattle, and it just blew me away. For current movies right now, I would suggest going to see Batman. Older movies: "Bowling for Columbine," the Michael Moore movie.

PL: I love that movie.

JT: Its amazing. It gives you something to think about.

PL: Whats a little known fact about North Carolina?

JT: That not everyone is a redneck-we're all rednecks. If you come to North Carolina, be ready for lots of tobacco, lots of alcohol, and cow tipping.

RF: And Bojangles.

JT: And Bojangles. Best sweet tea in the world.

Talking about what redneck stuff to wear in North Carolina breaks out, but its difficult to hear due to background noise. James does tell Sarah that she should put her hair in pigtails.

JT: You should put it in pigtails. You get a straw, put it in your mouth and just suck on it. Then you'd fit in perfectly.

PL: Name one album, besides your own, that you think all kids should have in their collection.

JT: Radiohead-OK Computer. That influenced us from changing from this metal hardcore thing to thinking "what else can we do?" After hearing that record, we thought that we could do more. So, I would say that everyone should own that album.

PL: Are the butterflies on my shoes too big?

JT: Um...I think they're a perfect size.

PL: Final comments?

JT: Have a good time. Life is short. I'm gonna spend it drinking and smoking and probably dying early. Read lots of books and take in as much information as possible. Thats the best advice I can give.
