Mercury Switch has some pretty rad guitars (which I will again mention when I get around to writing the review of their new album, Time to Shine. This interview was done via Email with guitarist Mark.

1. Introduce yourself.

Hello! This is Mark guitar shredder for Mercury Switch.

2. Your guitar riffs can get pretty freaking insane (in a good way). How do they come about (i.e. do you sit down and specifically try to write something or do you just jam out and see what happens)?

Wow, thanks!!! Yea for the most part all the guitar parts are all written 99% in my brain. Then I get it out through the fingers and lay down the shred. Sometimes Sam our singer write a few of the guitar parts and we will work together on those. Then someone else might write a breakdown and then all I have to do is play the chug pattern of sorts.

3. Dow it seem like people are going to shows and starting bands at a much earlier age than a few years ago?

It definitely does. There are all these little kids running around in the mosh pits. Its crazy! And kids have always been starting band in high school, but some of these kids can actually play nowadays.

4. Do you think there is a hierarchy in the underground music scene?

Yea there is. In every scene its all about who you know, and who is cool. But I think what is maybe better about the underground scene is that its way more chill. For the most people really dont care who you know. Name dropping is pretty beat anyways.

5. Season you hate the most: summer or winter?

I was literally just thinking about this yesterday, and I indeed made my final decision. I like summer better EXCEPT when its too humid. I dont hate winter though. I grew up in New England with the cold and snow and Im down with it.

6. What one thing you're excited to do this summer (if touring is one, feel free to name two things)?

Oh easy, beach and BBQ! Luke lives in Hampton Beach, NH and we hit up the BBQ at his house and then head to beach after and play arcades and be awesome at the beach.

7. How do you keep your cool in traffic?

Dunkin Donuts medium french vanilla ice coffee, regular cream and sugar.

8. Whats a little known fact about New Hampshire?

Most people dont know this, but its actually the best state EVER.

9. Name one movie everybody should go see.

"Kung Pow," its the dumbest most amazing movie ever. Every time you watch it, its gets better and better.

10. Name one album, besides your own, that you feel all kids should have in their collection.

Picking just one is so tough. But for today Id have to say the Head Automatica full length. The again tommorow I might say the Living Sacrifice Hammering Process cd... We'll go with Head Automatica.

11. Final comments.

Yes pick up our new cd and head bang while listening to it. Thanks for the interview!
