Phone interviews never seem to go that well for me. I guess my cell phone sucks and cuts off a lot of answers. This happened with Minus the Bear, but it still turned out to be a pretty good interview. I guess you'll just have to hunt Jake Snider down to find out his favorite childhood movie (it starred Gene Hackman) and album that he would recommend to everybody.
PL: Introduce yourself.
MtB: I'm Jake. I play guitar and sing in Minus the Bear.
PL: What does having your tour sponsored by Alternative Press mean?
MtB: Its helps get the word out about the tour, and they have the resources to just put advertising everywhere. They've got their own magazines and everything. They make people want to check out the bands.
PL: Is it good having a band member that is also an engineer? What are the benefits and consequences of it?
MtB: We definitely have a full fledged producer in Matt Bayles, and I'm also an engineer, so I can be recording it as well. It makes demoing songs incredibly easy for us because we always have access to studio time. We also have the ability to make a good sounding demo, even if its only for us. We get to spend more time in the studio than we normally would and we don't have to pay for a studio engineer. Its definitely a good asset that you can have. But there's no consequences.
PL: If you could bitch slap one person, who would it be and why?
MtB: I'd bitch slap George Bush. He's totally not qualified to run anything, let alone a country.
PL: Whats your confidence level like before you release a new album?
MtB: Right now, its pretty high because I think the record we just finished recording is quite a bit better quality than the other albums we've released in the past. Its a better recording. Everything about it is better. We had to try and get the resources to do it the way we wanted. Our confidence level, in general, is certainly high. You can never tell how a record is gonna be.
PL: Should foreign bands be allowed to run for President?
MtB: Thats a tough question. There's a reason they don't do that because then you can't have a foreign born nation. I think its a pretty good idea to have someone that's native run the country.
PL: Final comments.
MtB: I don't have any final comments.
PL: Thanks for your time.
MtB: No problem.
