Sum 41
Steve Jocs of Sum 41 sent his ten favorite songs, with an explanation of each one. This is a pretty good insight into his musical taste, and you can always check out their new album, Underclass Hero.
1.) The Clash - Clampdown: “The Clash is definitely in the top 3 of my all-time favorite bands.”
2.) Elton John – Levon: “I kind of grew up on Elton John. My mom was a huge, huge Elton John fan. From the time I was born to the time I moved out of the house, it was constantly playing in our house.”
3.) Iggy Pop – The Passenger: “We got to do a song with Iggy Pop in 2003 and that was one of the highlights of our career. He called us and said ‘I’m doing a new album called Skull Ring, would you guys want to do a song with me?’ So we ended up writing a song called Little Know It All.“
4.) Juliette and the Licks – Got Love to Kill: “One of my best friends, Todd, is in this band and we actually have a side project together called The Operation M.D. I’ve known Todd since 2001 on the Warped Tour so I got to play one of his songs.”
5.) T-Rex – Children of the Revolution: “I’ve always heard about T-Rex but I’ve never listened to them until the past 6 months. I finally saw it in a music store and I was like ‘I got to get a T-Rex album’, so I’ve been listening to it a lot lately.”
6.) The Operation M.D. – Someone Like You: “Because I sing it.”
7.) Mother Mother – Oh Ana: “They’re kind of an indie band from Canada that me and my girlfriend have been listening to around the house a lot. I don’t think a lot of people know them but I think they’re going to end up doing pretty good. They have a girl/guy vocal like The Pixies, so that’s why I like them.”
8.) Social Distortion – The Creeps: “I picked this because when we were on our first EP we got to do a week with Social Distortion. One story that was really funny about it was: we were in Vegas in our dressing room in the Hard Rock and we were opening for them and I guess one of our crew people or one of us probably was watching porn in our dressing room because there was free porn on the TVs, of course cause it’s in Vegas. I guess we left the room and the door open and the bass player from Social D had a 5 year old and he was running around in the hallways, and all of the sudden I guess he ran into our room and just stopped dead and was staring at the TV. His dad ran in after him and he freaked out and wanted to kick us off the tour. We had the same agent and he called our agent and was like ‘Ugh they’re watching porn, I don’t want my 5 year old…’. What he didn’t realize was that their All-Access pass had this girl in bondage all over it, which the kid is wearing around his neck. So our agent was like ‘You’re going to kick them off the tour for watching porn when you’re giving your kid an All-Access pass with bondage on it. You got to think about this for a second.”
9.) Stranglers – Peaches: “We’re playing with Stranglers in Japan in about 2 weeks at this big festival called Summer Sonic, so I get to watch them play.”
10.) Sum 41 – Best of Me: “It’s a slower song but I think it’s probably one of my favorite songs that we’ve ever had. It’s definitely my favorite off this album.”
