'It's A Kind Of Funny Story' Soundtrack Features Broken Social Scene, Score, New Song; Release Date September 28

As we noted a few days ago, Toronto orchestral indie-rock collective Broken Social Scene and its myriad members have had a busy year of scoring various films. One of their more high-profile gigs this year — aside from helping out Nigel Godrich with parts of the “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” score — was writing the music to Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden’s mental-illness dramedy, ‘It’s Kind Of A Funny Story” (read our TIFF review here).

Well, the soundtrack details have arrived. The album features one new BSS song, a bonus iTunes track and songs by The Damned, Method Man and Redman, Pink Mountaintops and The Middle East. The disc comes out via Rhino Records on September 28, but it looks like Broken’s actual score isn’t really part of the disc which is a bit of a shame because they’re known for excellent, atmospheric compositions that always set a palpable mood (see Fleck and Boden’s directorial debut, “Half Nelson,” though to be fair the filmmaking duo mostly used pre-existing cinematic-sounding Social Scene music).

The film hits theaters October 8. Tracklist below.
