James Franco Tries Win Over Bryan Cranston In Red Band Trailer For 'Why Him?'

I can only imagine the elevator pitch for “Why Him?” is what got this one made: James Franco plays Bryan Cranston‘s foul-mouthed, potential son-in-law. I mean, what else do you need to know? Well, the movie is now real and set for a big holiday release, and the first red band trailer has arrived.

Co-written and directed by John Hamburg (“Along Came Polly,” “I Love You, Man“), with Ben Stiller and Jonah Hill among the producers, and co-starring Zoey Deutch and Megan Mullally, the movie follows a slick internet success story, who endeavors to win over his girlfriend’s reluctant father, he can get his blessing to marry her. Wackiness ensues. Here’s the official synopsis:

Over the holidays, Ned (Bryan Cranston), an overprotective but loving dad and his family visit his daughter at Stanford, where he meets his biggest nightmare: her well-meaning but socially awkward Silicon Valley billionaire boyfriend, Laird (James Franco). The straight-laced Ned thinks Laird, who has absolutely no filter, is a wildly inappropriate match for his daughter. The one-sided rivalry-and Ned’s panic level-escalate when he finds himself increasingly out of step in the glamorous high-tech hub, and learns that Laird is about to pop the question.
