James Gunn Rebooting ‘Starsky & Hutch’ TV Series

Thirteen years have passed since Hollywood first rebooted “Starsky & Hutch,” delivering a Todd Phillips directed lark starring Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, that was guilty pleasure fun, and chalked up $170 million worldwide, which isn’t too bad. However, intellectual property can only sit around so long before it needs to be exploited once again, but this time, the mismatched cops are headed back the small screen where they originated.

As busy as he is with Marvel, James Gunn is finding the time to write a TV series reboot of “Starsky & Hutch” with his brother, Brian Gunn, and his cousin, Mark Gunn. This new take on the series will be a “character driven one-hour procedural” which — wait a minute, aren’t there about five thousand those already? What makes this one special aside from the brand name value (which I’d argue is probably diminished, unless the audience is your Dad). But hey, I don’t call the shots at Sony Pictures TV Studios.

Gunn may direct, as well, if his Marvel schedule allows it, but it sounds like this is in very, very early stages. Who knows if it’ll make it to a series order, but then again, who would’ve thought “Guardians Of The Galaxy” would’ve turned out to be one of Marvel’s biggest success stories. [Deadline]
