James Marsh To Direct True Story Senior Heist Tale

Generally speaking, James Marsh likes a true story of substance to dig into. Whether it’s via his documentaries (“Man On Wire,” “Project Nim“) or features (“The Theory Of Everything,” the upcoming “Deep Water“), the director seems to thrive on telling stories that draw on actual human experience, and he unsurprisingly has another one developing.

Deadline reports that Marsh will direct an adaptation of Mark Seal‘s Vanity Fair article from this spring recounting the remarkable tale about a group of retired criminals in their 60s and 70s who got together for one last job, pulling off a daring Easter weekend heist of the Hatton Garden Safe Deposit Company in 2015, the largest burglary in U.K. history. Six weeks later, most of the gang members were caught, but the audacity of the crime, particularly for their age, drew major headlines.

Joe Penhall (“The Road“) will be writing the script, and while we’re always up for a good heist flick, this one sounds like it has particularly great potential. Check out a Channel 4 report about the heist below.
