James Van Der Beek Will Play Diplo In New Viceland TV Series

Is Diplo still cool? I honestly have no idea, but it seems Viceland thinks the DJ has enough juice behind him to power their first scripted TV show. Or at least his name, anyway….

The hipster network has teamed with A+E for their first script show, titled, “What Would Diplo Do?” Yes, really. Diplo himself is executive producing the show that will see former “Dawson’s Creek” heartthrob James Van Der Beek playing a fictionalized version of the DJ that will feature “parables about life” in a show that’s described as “Louie” meets “WorldStar Hip Hop” meets “This Is Spinal Tap.”

Incidentally, this whole series was inspired by “A Day In The Life Of Diplo,” a concert promo released last summer that first featured Van Der Beek playing Diplo, and even the actor is as surprised as you are that he’s now leading a show.

“I had that day free, I did a quick rewrite and found that it came easily,” Van Der Beek told Deadline. “It was fun and that was it, I never thought it would lead to a series.”

Six episodes have been ordered, and the show is slated to premiere later this year.
