Jared Leto Talks Playing "The Baddest Of The Bad" In 'Suicide Squad' Plus New TV Spot

Warner Bros. really needs “Suicide Squad” to be a hit, and they are moving mountains to make sure fans are happy. The picture has undergone extensive reshoots/additional filming to bring more action and/or comedy beats to the movie (depending on who you ask), while the studio is planning a “major presence” at San Diego Comic Con next month, that will include a special taping of “Conan” with the cast. And that’s not all.

According to We Got This Covered, the studio is so keen on the movie that multiple spinoffs are being mulled. We already know a sequel and Harley Quinn-focused spinoff are in the works, but apparently movies based around Jai Courtney‘s Boomerang and even Jared Leto‘s Joker are being seen as possibilities. Certainly, WB is going to want to maximize the project that has the biggest buzz for them as much as they can, particularly if the reception is good.

Meanwhile, in the latest issue of Total Film (via WGTC), Jared Leto explained the appeal of playing the Batman villain, and how David Ayer‘s enthusiasm informed his own.

“The only villain who may be more infamous is the devil. The Joker is an icon, a legend, the baddest of the bad and seems to be having the most fun. Hard not to be a fan of that,” he said. “I knew I was going to have to dive deep and go to a place I had never gone before. We sat outside his house and talked and it was clear he wanted to make something really different. He wanted to break some rules, and that’s very compelling….His ideas and energy were infectious, and I knew I had to be a part of the adventure.”

“Suicide Squad” arrives on August 5th. Check out a new TV spot below featuring bits of new footage.
