Jaume Collet-Serra Frontrunner To Direct 'Suicide Squad 2'

Having admitted they screwed up “Suicide Squad,” DC Films have understandably taken their time in developing a followup. Mel Gibson, David Goyer, and Jaume Collet-Serra are the names that have been tossed around as possible helmers, and it looks like one of them is sliding into the gig.

Deadline reports that Collet-Serra is the frontrunner to direct “Suicide Squad 2.” The director certainly knows his way around action, having direct a string of B-movie style efforts on decent budgets like “Non-Stop,” “Run All Night,” “The Shallows,” and the upcoming “The Commuter.” It would be Collet-Serra’s biggest film to date, and seems like something his career has been going toward anyway. And if he can get his old pal Liam Neeson to show (the actor stars in three of the four aforementioned films), the more power to him.

The real concern for fans should be the script, which is being penned by Adam Cozad (“The Legend Of Tarzan,” “Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit”) whose credits speak for themselves. There’s no word on a release date yet, but the movie is likely some time off, with Joel Kinnaman mentioning 2018 as a possible start for filming. So, still plenty of time for DC and co. to correct the many wrongs of the first movie.
