Jeremy Renner & Elizabeth Olsen Reteam For 'Wind River,' Directorial Debut Of 'Sicario' Writer Taylor Sheridan

Jeremy Renner and Elizabeth Olsen are no strangers to one another. They already shared the screen together in supporting turns in last year’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and this month’s “Captain America: Civil War,” but that might just be the beginning of their working relationship. They also found some time between press rounds and preparations for future Marvel Cinematic Universe installments to once again team up for “Wind River,” the directorial debut of “Son of Anarchy” star and “Sicario” screenwriter Taylor Sheridan. And in the process, they managed to bring another Marvel alum, Netflix’s own The Punisher, Jon Bernthal, onto the team. Whether they work as well outside the world of capes and vigilantes is currently unproven, but it won’t be for long. That’s because The Weinstein Company has just nabbed the U.S. rights for the upcoming film.

The deal went down during the ongoing Cannes celebrations, and it’s not too hard to see what drew in Harvey Weinstein. The film, also written by Sheridan, centers on a Fish and Game Department employee (Renner) who discovers a teenage girl’s frozen corpse and must help a rookie agent navigate the terrain for clues and suspects. So, there’s some serious potential here.

Right now, Sheridan is experiencing some pleasant buzz on the Croisette for “Hell Or High Water” (our review), the dusty crime flick starring Jeff Bridges, Chris Pine and Ben Foster, which also comes from his pen. He’s on quite a streak at the moment, and so we’re eager to see what he does with his first featuring directing gig, working from his own material. [THR]
