Jessica Henwick Joins Marvel’s Netflix Series 'Iron Fist'

Marvel’s “Iron Fist” is ramping up and adding another “Game Of Thrones” cast member to its ensemble. Jessica Henwick (who also had a small role in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”) has joined the Netflix original series as the protagonist’s colleague Colleen Wing.

A martial arts expert running her own dojo, Colleen will serve as an invaluable ally to Danny Rand aka Iron Fist — played by “Game Of Thrones” star Finn Jones — as he returns to his life in New York after leaving K’un-L’un; a secretive Martial Arts Temple in Asia.

Iron Fist’s origin story on the show isn’t very different from “Batman Begins” it seems. Rand had been “missing” for years, but was secretly training abroad and learning his martial arts and mystical powers. He then returns to Hell’s Kitchen to fight the criminal element corrupting New York City with his incredible kung-fu mastery and ability to summon the awesome power of the fiery Iron Fist.

Marvel’s Netflix connectivity is building. Luke Cage featured prominently in “Jessica Jones,” and while these connections are pretty muted in “Daredevil” season two, one would assume the ninja clan The Hand, and the mystical elements introduced in the second season of the Man Without Fear are paving the way for Iron Fist.

There’s no premiere date on “Iron Fist” yet, but given that “Luke Cage” is premiering in the fall, and that the show hasn’t begun shooting, we would expect an early or spring 2017 bow. Perhaps much like on “Daredevil” season two, the concluding episode of “Luke Cage” will feature a teaser for the new “Iron Fist” show.
