Lionsgate knows a good piece of IP when they see one, and they are gonna milk “John Wick” for all its worth. With plans for a TV series already in the works, the studio is now looking to create an expanded universe based around Keanu Reeves’ dog-loving assassin, because these are the times we live in, and why the hell not?

THR reports that the studio has snapped up the spec script “Ballerina,” with plans to integrate it into the “John Wick” world. Newbie, 23 year-old writer (damn, that’s impressive) Shay Hatten penned the screenplay which is said to be in the vein of “La Femme Nikita,” and follows a woman, raised as an assassin, who tracks down the other assassins who killed her family. Seems straightforward enough. Just add in a stop at the Continental Hotel, and maybe a cameo by Reeves, and boom, cinematic universe created.
Certainly with “John Wick 3” coming, this gives Lionsgate material to create prongs to spin out into. However, with the internet already clamoring to see John Wick and Charlize Theron’s “Atomic Blonde” kick ass together, why not try and go down that road? If Sony and Marvel can make nice for Spider-Man…..
