Juan Antonio Bayona Confirmed To Direct 'Jurassic World 2'

Well, this has been a longtime coming. First courted for “Jurassic World 2” last fall, J.A. Bayona was prevented because Paramount had an option on the filmmaker, and wanted him for “World War Z 2.” However, he’s still got “A Monster Calls” to finish for this fall, so scheduling took him out of the mix, and he’ll be making another blockbuster sequel instead.

J.A. Bayona has been confirmed to direct the followup to the smash success “Jurassic World.” Director Colin Trevorrow is still heavily involved, once again working with writer Derek Connelly on the screenplay. And while there are no specific plot details yet, Trevorrow teased last summer about thematic direction the sequel might take.

“… a seed that I wanted to plant in this movie, that might be able to grow in more of these movies if they decide to make more of them, is: What if this went open source? It’s almost like InGen is Mac, but what if PC gets their hands on it? What if there are 15 different entities around the world who can make a dinosaur?” he said in August. Jurassic world, indeed.

“Jurassic World 2” will open on June 22, 2018 with both Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard slated to return. [The Wrap]
