Julia Roberts Gets 'Framed'

With podcasts and longform documentary series increasing in popularity, it can sometimes feel that old school, in-depth journalism has been forgotten. So it only speaks to the power of Christopher Goffard‘s reporting that his six-part LA Times piece “Framed” became a sensation when it was published in early September. And less than a month later, the story detailed in that article is now gearing up for a major big screen adaptation with an A-list star moving it along.

Julia Roberts is now attached to play in the lead role of Kelli Peters, in the wild, very true story of a PTA President who was framed for drug possession by a married couple looking to remove her from power. But rather than being based on Goffard’s piece, the Roberts produced flick will use the recently published book ” ‘I’ll Get You!’ Drugs, Lies, and the Terrorizing of a PTA Mom” as its source material.

There’s no word yet on who will write and direct, but just the premise and Roberts alone should spark no shortage of interest from studios as it gets shopped around town. At first glance, this sounds like the perfect vehicle for a Roberts/Soderbergh reunion, but there will likely be a few high-profile filmmakers angling for the gig. [Mashable]
