Kate Beckinsale Shoots Vampires & Werewolves Again In First Trailer For 'Underworld: Blood Wars'

It’s very difficult for a franchise to be killed completely, especially if it performs internationally. And that’s why in 2017, despite there not being all that many fans of it out there, seemingly, we’re getting a new “Underworld” movie. The vampire vs. werewolf franchise first began in 2003, and has since spawned two sequels (2006’s “Underworld: Evolution” and 2012’s “Underworld: Awakening”) and a prequel (2009’s “Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans”).

It’s never been a blockbuster series, or even inspired all that much passion, but it nevertheless has always brought in healthy grosses and never cost that much, so in January, “Underworld: Blood Wars” will hit theaters. Directed by Roland Emmerich collaborator Anna Foerster, it sees Kate Beckinsale’s Selene returning, and reunited with “Divergent” actor Theo James, who joined the franchise with ‘Awakening,’ facing ambitious new Lycan and vampire leaders in the shape of “Outlander” actor Tobias Menzies and “Sherlock” star Lara Pulver.

To be honest, this looks functionally identical to the previous movies, but with a slightly refreshed cast, but we imagine it’ll make for an easy January moviegoing evening for those who like this sort of thing.
