Kevin Feige Talks 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' Sequel

As you might expect when two massive companies come together, Marvel and Sony‘s team-up for this summer’s “Spider-Man: Homecoming” is not without its bumps in the road. Specifically, producers Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal have struggled to stick to the same message regarding the future of their collaborations, with the latter boldly stating last week that Sony’s brewing “Venom” and “Silver and Black” films would be linked to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Feige, who was sitting beside Pascal as she made the claim, looked visibly surprised, and indeed,  ‘Homecoming ‘ star Tom Holland is now insisting that those movies and characters won’t be dropping into the MCU.

“Everyone’s asking this question, man. It’s never happening,” Holland told ComicBook about Venom appearing in any ‘Homecoming’ sequels or beyond. “There are so many. I’m so excited to explore new villains. I want to see people we haven’t seen before because Spider-Man, of all characters, probably has the most villains and it only makes sense to explore new ones.”

As it always goes, discussion is already turning to what might be coming in the inevitable ‘Homecoming’ followup, and Feige is already promising something on an epic scale.

“So much happens in [the 3rd and 4th ‘Avengers‘ movies], as you can imagine, and so much is affected by it that we felt what better person to hold your hand and lead you into the next incarnation of the MCU, in a grounded, realistic manner, than Peter Parker? So, coming out two months after Untitled ‘Avengers,’ [that’s what] much of what the next ‘Spider-Man’ film will be about,” Feige told io9.

“…Like how the events of ‘Captain America: Civil War‘ impacted Peter as he was dropped off by Tony and expected to go back to continue his sophomore year, how the hell are the events of ‘Infinity War’ and [Untitled ‘Avengers’] going to affect him as he, yes, goes back to his junior year?”

Intriguing stuff, and while there’s not word yet on who will be behind the camera, all signs point to Jon Watts returning.

“Certainly that’s the intention for sure,” Feige cold Collider.

“He knocked it out of the park. We would be crazy [not to]. He did a wonderful job and the whole atmosphere of the movie, all the things that people like about it are the things he brought to it. He’s really special,” Pascal added.

“Spider-Man: Homecoming” opens on July 7th.
