Kevin Smith Suggests Tim Miller As The New Director Of 'The Flash'

With “Deadpool 2officially locking down David Leitch to helm the sequel, the superhero movie of the moment with a job vacancy is “The Flash.” The film recently lost director Rick Famiyuwa marking the second high profile departure this year from the movie, with Seth Grahame-Smith also leaving in 2016. It’s been nearly a month since this all went down, and surprisingly, if there’s a shortlist of replacements, it hasn’t leaked yet to the trades. But Kevin Smith has a suggestion that we’re sure a lot of people have already thought of.

“[Tim Miller] is visually fucking gifted. He’d think of something that’d convey running. Because that’s, you know, we’ve seen tastes of running fast in the ‘X-Men’ movies and now in the ‘Avengers‘ movie. But for a whole Flash movie? You’ve gotta do something like fucking astounding and new,” he recently said on the “Fatman On Batman” podcast.

The former “Deadpool” director isn’t a bad choice, but it’s worth remembering that Miller had much more creative freedom on that movie thanks to its very modest budget, and it’s probably safe to say that at Warner Bros., there will be a few more hands in the soup. Given the high profile split from “Deadpool 2,” I’m not sure Miller would want to leap right over to another superhero movie, especially one that has been having trouble hanging onto directors.

To Smith’s point though, he is right that the whole “fast-running” thing has already been seen a few times in superhero flicks, and there will have to be some kind of visual pizzazz to “The Flash.” Whether it’s Miller or somebody else, the job will be a tall order.

For now, “The Flash” is slated to open on March 16, 2018 but that’ll depend on if it can still get into production by next spring. [via io9]
