I would not have bought this book had Harry Shearer not written it. I'm a huge fan of "The Simpsons" and have great faith that anything associated with the show would make me laugh. Turns out that I was very right, and Shearer turns out to be able to write an entertaining andpotent novel that was a quick read and full of zany characters. There were a lot of characters, but Shearer realized that and put a guide at the beginning of the book.
The premise seems so simple and obvious that its a wonder no one thought of it before. Based around a small, broke town and their ability to finagle themselves a casino by posing as Indians, making the small town of Gammage, NY richer than the Monopoly guy. Predictably, what goes up must come down, which is what ended up happening, all thanks to some nuclear waste.
Despite Shearer's great prose and fine use of humor, everything is a little on the predictable side, which is fine, as I knew where the story was going but didn't always know how it would get there. Its something I could picture on the big screen or a television series, and a finely entertaining one at that.
