Chuck Palahniuk-"Rant: An Oral Biography of Buster Casey"
Doubleday
May 1, 2007

This was a difficult book to wrap my head around while reading, and a conundrum to attempt to explain, but this is the best book Chuck Palahniuk has written since "Lullaby." Told from the perspective of many characters who knew and interacted with Rant "Buster" Casey, both minor and major characters, this is a very interesting book that isn't all that easy to read (a welcomed challenge), but becomes hard to put down after awhile.

Rant "Buster" Casey's life is told relatively from start to finish (well, maybe not finish) by the various people who knew him. The book never really states why they are gathering all these reports and statments about him, but it makes for a fascinating tale, even if it is one that needs a suspension of disbelief for all the craziness that goes on.

This book has everything from boogers to rabies to killer dogs to rare coins to car crashes to garbage flying to sex (to the point where Rant could tell what was bothering the person he was going down on) to time travel to zombis to incest (sort of), all with a sense of the supernatural that will have you scratching your head more than a few times. Its an odd duck of a novel, but everything is explained in a way that sort of makes sense, a tough feat for such out there ideas and themes.

Though he attacks this novel in a different way, this is very much a Chuck Palahniuk story. His style, knowledge about seemingly everything, and eccentric ideas are in full force on this one, which requires close attention. It took me a little bit before I got hooked into the story, but I had a hard time putting "Rant" down after that.
