Max Brooks-"World War Z: An Oral History of the Zombie War"
Three Rivers Press
October 16, 2007

It was inevitable eversince the prophet George Romero shared his future vision of the world with Night of the Living Dead, that zombies would eventually wage an actual world war on humans, and Max Brooks (or whomever the narrator might be) took the time to dig through the aftermath, showing the mistakes, the greed and the heroics, as well as giving a glimpse as to what Earth, a somewhat more united front with Cuba as a superpower, is now like.

This is done in a series of interviews by the people who lived through the catastrophe. Brooks wrote in a very honest style, and was able to give each character their own separate personality, which is no small feat considering the amount of people interviewed for his study.

There aren't any surprises in this work. The reader turns to the first page knowing that humans had a war with zombies and that the humans won. What this does is show the how, the why, the reasons, and the insight. There is no real climax (it cou ld be argued that the plan of the president is the climax), but t here doesn't need to be one. I wish more historical books were this interesting.
