Mads Mikkelsen Says Don't Worry About The 'Rogue One' Reshoots, "It's Still The Same Film'

Last week, Disney had to deal with the unthinkable — bad buzz for one of their “Star Wars” movies. Word emerged that all was not well with “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” with extensive reshoots planned to soften the tone of what his been described as a “war movie” from director Gareth Edwards. Even his involvement seems to have been somewhat diminished, with Tony Gilroy stepping in to lead the reshoots, with Simon Crane doing second unit and stunt team work. Disney has been trying to downplay the extent of the additional filming and how much is going to be changed in the final product, but as far as Mads Mikkelsen is concerned, there is no cause alarm.

“Basically, all the big films I have done always have reshoots, it is part of their budget. They’re either not super happy with a scene bit, the way we were acting, or maybe there’s something they want to add. It’s not a new thing, it happens with every film. Whether it’s bigger or less, I have no idea, I have nothing to compare with,” he told The Independent. “It’s the same film, it’s just adding little bits here and there to do the final polishing. That’s my feeling.”

The caveat here is that Mikkelsen also says he’s only doing one day of reshoots, which in a stretch of a planned six weeks, is barely a blip on the radar. So maybe his role isn’t changing, but the movie around him could very well be. And as he also notes, his blockbuster experience has been fairly limited, with roles in “Clash Of The Titans” and “Casino Royale,” but not much else beyond.

Still, it’s yet another perspective on a movie that Disney will be working hard to change the perception of by time it opens on December 16th.
