Marvel Confirms A ‘Luke Cage’ Second Season Is Coming Soon To Netflix

Marvel’s Netflix shows have performed so well, every series that has aired so far — “Daredevil” and “Jessica Jones” — has received a second-season order. “Dardevil” is going on season three, and their sophomore run was so popular that one of the supporting characters, “The Punisher,” is receiving his own solo show. So perhaps it comes as no surprise that “Luke Cage,” which aired earlier this fall to much critical acclaim, has been renewed. Marvel’s official Twitter page tweeted the news this afternoon.

Next up for Marvel and Netflix is “Iron Fist,” which will air in 2017 followed by “The Defenders,” which will unite all the heroes that have been featured on the streaming-service shows so far. Presumably both shows will earn themselves a second-season order as well. But fans that understand the inner politics of Marvel — film and TV being separate entities run by different chiefs — know not to hold their breath for Netflix Marvel characters to eventually appear in the big-screen Marvel movies (and yes, each actor has an option in their contract, just in case…).

“Luke Cage” stars Mike Colter and presumably we’ll see the return of actors like Simone Missick, Rosario Dawson and many more.
