Marvel Officially Announces Brie Larson As 'Captain Marvel'

If you look at the current Marvel Cinematic Universe schedule, you’ll see that nearly all of the details have been revealed up to “Avengers: Infinity War – Part 2” hitting in May 2019. But there’s one title that fans know little about: 2019’s “Captain Marvel.” Well, today at Comic-Con in San Diego, Kevin Feige and Marvel revealed that the already rumored Brie Larson would be taking the titular role of the super-heroine.

The actor was already tipped to assume these roles, so the Comic-Con announcement was just the fait accompli announcement. It’s a big get for Marvel as Larson is coming off her Academy Award for the indie movie “Room.” There’s no confirmation on a director yet, but Elizabeth Wood (“White Girl“) and Karyn Kusama (“Aeon Flux“) are just some of the names that have been mentioned as part of the mix. Evidently they’re not quite ready to announce yet.

Nicole Perlman & Meg LeFauve wrote the script. “Captain Marvel” hits theaters March 8, 2019. And presumably she’ll show up in either the first ‘Infinity War — Part 1’ as an introduction (much like they did with Black Panther and Spider-Man) or save her for ‘Part 2,’ but I’d bet on the former as a way to tease the character’s solo movie.
