"I Was Meant To Be In The Movie Until The End": Rebecca Hall Says Her Role Was Reduced In 'Iron Man 3'

Many moons ago, in our feature The Best & Worst Moments Of “Iron Man 3,” we were particularly disappointed that Rebecca Hall‘s Maya Hansen “does very little except have a one night stand with [Tony] Stark back in the day, and then inexplicably show up at his house.” Yep, that’s about it, but the actress revealed she actually had more to do in the movie….at least at first.

“I signed on to do something that was a substantial role. She wasn’t entirely the villain – but I signed on to do something very different to what I ended up doing,” she told the Toronto Sun. “Halfway through shooting they were basically like, ‘What would you think if you just got shot out of nowhere?’ I was meant to be in the movie until the end… I grappled with them for awhile and then I said, ‘Well, you have to give me a decent death scene and you have to give me one more scene with Iron Man,’ which Robert Downey Jr. supported me on.”

Hall’s comments about “Iron Man 3” are backed up the film’s writer/director Shane Black who revealed earlier this year that at first “we had a female character who was the villain in the draft” but was forced to change it by the studio following concerns it wouldn’t sell as many toys as a male baddie.

Time has seen the comics company evolve, at least a little bit, with Marvel gearing up “Captain Marvel” with Brie Larson. But we’ll be left wondering what could’ve been with “Iron Man 3” which eventually went with Mandarin and Aldrich Killian as the baddies, with kids everywhere buying up those toys. Oh, wait….
