Mel Gibson, Frank Grillo & Joe Carnahan Team For 'Boss Level'

While two movies don’t make a trend….does three? Films with characters caught in a loop don’t come around very often, but in recent memory, the gimmick has been given a sci-fi touch with “Source Code” and “Edge Of Tomorrow.” Now, audiences will circle back to another movie using that storytelling device.

Mel Gibson and Frank Grillo make the unlikely leading duo of Joe Carnahan‘s “Boss Level.” The video game-esque title seems appropriate, with the story retired special forces veteran who keeps living the day of his death over and over again, and has to figure out how to break the cycle, and whose behind nefarious scheme (my guess? Mel Gibson). It’s an interesting combo of leading men, with Gibson celebrating his biggest opening since “Signs” with “Daddy’s Home 2 and Grillo part of one of the biggest movies in China’s history this year with “Wolf Warrior II.”

Production on “Boss Level” will get underway next year with Emmett/Furla/Oasis ponying up the cash. No word yet on who will release it. [Deadline]
