Meryl Streep Joins 'Mary Poppins Returns' With Emily Blunt & Lin-Manuel Miranda

Like it or not, Disney is reviving “Mary Poppins” for a reboot/sequel, bringing everyone’s favorite nanny to life for a whole new generation. And credit to the studio, they are lining up a promising cast. Emily Blunt is taking the title role, and “Hamilton” star Lin-Manuel Miranda is on board as well. Now, another big name is joining the production.

Meryl Streep is reteaming with her “Into The Woods” co-star Blunt and director Rob Marshall for the movie. Set in Depression-era London, the story will follow a now-grown Jane and Michael Banks, who, along with Michael’s three children, are visited by the enigmatic Mary Poppins following a personal loss. Through her unique magical skills, and with the aid of her friend Jack, she helps the family rediscover the joy and wonder missing in their lives. Streep will be playing Poppins’ cousin, Topsy, and yes, she will be singing.
