Mia Hansen-Løve Writing New Film ‘Bergman Island,’ About A Filmmaker Couple

Premiering at the Berlin Film Festival in February, the latest film from Mia Hansen-Love, “Things To Come,” is preparing for the fall festival circuit with stops in Toronto and New York. But the writer/director is already hard at work on her next projects. Last month, the filmmaker revealed her next film would be the hostage drama “Maya,” which would be followed by a relationship drama. Now, we have a title about that latter picture and a few more details.

Talking with The Guardian, Hansen-Love revealed she’d just returned from the island of Faro, home of the legendary Ingmar Bergman, where she had been putting together her script for a film titled, “Bergman Island.” Perhaps coincidentally (or not) it shares the name with Marie Nyreröd‘s documentary about Bergman, but Hansen-Love’s movie will tell the story of the relationship between a filmmaking couple. And while it was previously reported that the movie would be inspired by Hansen-Love’s relationship with Olivier Assayas, she says that won’t really be the case.

Nonetheless, exciting things ahead for Hansen-Love. “Maya,” starring Roman Kolinka, will shoot next year, and “Things To Come” will open in stateside cinemas later this year via Sundance Selects.
