In the spring, we learned that former Jaeger pilot Charlie Hunnam would be taking the McQueen part, and now Deadline reports that fast-rising “Mr. Robot” star Rami Malek has been slotted into the Hoffman role. “Prisoners” writer Aaron Guzikowski has penned the script for what’s going to be a contemporary take on the based-on-a-true-story dramatic thriller about a man unjustly convicted of murder who enlists the help of a counterfeiter to break him out of a South American jail.

Danish helmer Michael Noer (“R“) will be directing the movie, which is coming together fast, with production to start next month. The lead duo have some big shoes to fill, not to mention that the film in general is gearing in the shadow of a giant, so it’ll be interesting to see if this one can be pulled off.
