New Details Emerge About The Next Films From Nuri Bilge Ceylan & Mia Hansen-Løve

As we count down our list of the The 100 Best And Most Exciting Working Directors, two names you’ll be finding on there are Nuri Bilge Ceylan and Mia Hansen-Løve. And we’re always excited to see what they’re up to next, and good news is, both filmmakers are gearing up new pictures.

First, Ceylan will follow 2014’s Cannes FIPRESCI Prize and Palme d’Or winner “Winter Sleep” with “Le poirier sauvage,” and it sounds like a particularly tough tale. The film will tell the story of aspiring writer Sinan, who returns to the village where he was born and starts pulling together the money he needs to get published. The problem? He can’t shake the debts his father has accrued. Sounds heavy but potent, and it’ll be one many cinephiles will be keeping an eager eye out for.

Meanwhile, we’ve known for a bit that “Things To Come” director Hansen-Løve’s next film would be the hostage drama “Maya,” but it’s much more than that description implies. The movie will star Roman Kolinka, Cédric Kahn and Aarshi Banerjee, and follow a war reporter who heads back home to Goa to find himself after being held captive in Syria for months. It would seem that the hostage element is merely the starting point for this story.

No release dates yet for either picture, but I think 2018 would probably be a safe bet for both. [Cineuropa]
