New HBO Comedy 'Insecure' From 'Awkward Black Girl' Creator Issa Rae Gets A Trailer

HBO are probably doing much better in terms of comedy than they are in drama right now — while “Game Of Thrones” is really their only quality hit on the hour-long side, they have “Girls,” “Veep,” and “Silicon Valley” as a killer trio (with “Ballers” less good, but performing better). But those first three, as good as they are, are decidedly white shows about decidedly white experiences, which must leave a fair chunk of the population feeling on the outside looking in.

Thankfully, it’s not going to last forever, as this fall will see the debut of “Insecure.” In development for quite some time, the show is the brainchild of Issa Rae, who broke out as the star and creator of the brilliant web series “Awkward Black Girl.” The network describes it as looking “at the friendship, experiences and tribulation of two black women.”

Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis and Lisa Joyce also star, and “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” veteran Prentice Penny is serving as showrunner. The trailer looks like it’ll certainly be worth tuning in for. It’ll likely paired with new comedy “Divorce” when it debuts in the fall. Watch the clip above and below.
