New Images From 'The Assassination Of Gianni Versace'

It was recently announced that “Katrina: American Crime Story,” which was due to air next year, had a problem with filming and isn’t expected to begin until early 2018. That’s a bummer, but the good news is that “The Assassination Of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story” will be coming in its place, and at least based on the images, it looks like it’s going to be some entertainingly lurid and glamorous fare.

Featuring a great lead cast including Edgar Ramirez, Penelope Cruz, Darren Criss, and Ricky Martin (!), the new series from the folks behind “The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story” will tell the tale of Andrew Phillip Cunanan, an American serial killer who murdered at least five people, including fashion designer Gianni Versace on the steps of his Miami Beach mansion, during a three-month period in 1997.

“Here are two men from comparable backgrounds that had all kinds of similarities,” writer Tom Rob Smith told EW. “They came from parents who were striving but not wealthy. They had the Italian-heritage connection. This feeling of being an outsider. The sexuality connection. Why does one go on to become this incredible creator and great life force? And the other young man ends up destroying so much?”

Sounds like once again the ‘American Crime Story’ team have found the story behind the story, and we’re intrigued to see how this turns out. The Assassination Of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story” arrives in 2018.The Assassination of Gianni Versace: American Crime Story (2018) Season 2, Episode TK Pictured: (l-r) Annaleigh Ashford as Elizabeth, Darren Criss as Andrew Cunanan, Nico-Evers-Swindell as Phil.
