Earlier this year, Mads Mikkelsen casually spilled that his role in “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” would be that of Jyn Erso’s father. And ordinarily, that would seem a fairly innocuous revelation except for the fact that thus far in the film’s extensive marketing for the movie, there hasn’t been any footage of him. And even in this new international trailer, while the character is mentioned, he’s not glimpsed. Hmm.
Mostly a recut of the latest trailer, this promo does feature a few new scenes where we learn that Galen Erso (sidenote: Galen might be the most normcore name to ever appear in the “Star Wars” universe), works for the Empire, and it’s his message that’s intercepted, tipping the Rebellion off to news of the Death Star. Certainly, it opens up an interesting texture for Jyn’s background, and I’ll be curious to see if she crosses paths with her father as she embarks on a mission for the Rebellion.
“He at one point invented something so beautiful, so fantastic, that it might change the universe,” Mikkelsen teased about his character at Star Wars Celebration this summer.
“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story” opens on December 16th.
