It’s been seven years since fashion-maven-turned-filmmaker Tom Ford’s deeply underrated drama and stylishly sexy, “A Single Man,” but fortunately the chic designer hasn’t given up on cinema. His latest is “Nocturnal Animals,” a sprawling drama about an art gallery owner (Amy Adams) who is haunted by her ex-husband’s (Jake Gyllenhaaal) novel, a violent thriller that she interprets as a veiled threat and a symbolic revenge tale.

The movie recently premiered in Venice (read our review here) and while it wasn’t as rapturously received as “A Single Man,” it promises to be just as stylish and worthwhile. Here’s the synopsis:

Academy Award nominees Amy Adams and Jake Gyllenhaal star as a divorced couple discovering dark truths about each other and themselves in NOCTURNAL ANIMALS.
The stellar cast includes belle-of-the-Venice-ball Amy Adams, Jake Gyllenhaal, Michael Shannon (who is apparently amazing in the movie). Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Isla Fisher, Karl Glusman, Armie Hammer, Laura Linney, Andrea Riseborough and Michael Sheen
The film has its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 11 and in the lead up, Focus Features has released a four-some of character posters featuring Adams, Gyllenhaal, Shannon and Taylor-Johnson (we’ve also got 2 new photos). Focus is doing a slow roll out of the film in the late fall too. It opens in select limited release on November 18, expands on November 23 and moves into wide release on December 9. Whether it’s the Oscar player the company was hoping for remains to be seen, but the cast alone is good enough for us.
