New Trailer For 'Star Trek: Discovery' Explores New Worlds

With the big screen version of “Star Trek” seemingly on hold (they announced “Star Trek 4” last summer, but there has been no word since), fans of the series have something to look forward to with “Star Trek: Discovery.” It’s the return of the franchise to the small screen, and hopes are high that the series will get back the roots of what made the property so beloved in the first place.

A large ensemble cast including James Frain, Doug Jones, Michelle Yeoh, Jason Isaacs, Rainn Wilson and more have been assembled for this series, which takes place about a decade before the original series. Here’s the synopsis:

Star Trek, one of the most iconic and influential global television franchises, returns 50 years after it first premiered, with Star Trek: Discovery. The series will feature a new ship, new characters and new missions, while embracing the same ideology and hope for the future that inspired a generation of dreamers and doers.

For some clue about the tone of the new show, Isaacs offers this insight at San Diego Comic Con (via EW) into his Captain Gabriel Lorca: “He’s probably more f–ked up than any of them. He’s a complicated guy for a complicated age. He’s a guy who’s born out of war and it gives him a lot of sharp edges.”

“Star Trek: Discovery” launches on CBS on September 24th, before moving to the network’s digital service All Access. If you live outside the U.S. and Canada, Netflix will be the spot to watch it.
