‘The Nice Guys’ Breakout Star Angourie Rice Joins Sofia Coppola's ‘The Beguiled’

While audiences didn’t show up for Shane Black‘s pulpy, hilarious “The Nice Guys,” the right people in Hollywood seemed to have instantly noticed the young breakout star Angourie Rice, who played Ryan Gosling‘s daughter in the film. It didn’t take long for her to bag a role in “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” and now she’s landed another plum gig.

THR reveals that Rice will be joining Nicole Kidman, Kirsten Dunst, Elle Fanning and Colin Farrell in Sofia Copolla‘s “The Beguiled.” The remake of Clint Eastwood‘s 1971 film based on the Southern Gothic novel by Thomas P. Cullinan follows a Union soldier who is taken into a Southern girls’ academy, setting off a chain reaction of jealousy, hate and lust. Rice will join Kidman, Dunst and Fanning in portraying residents of the academy, with Farrell playing the soldier.

“The Beguiled” already has a home with Focus Features, which could have quite a 2017 slate if both this and Paul Thomas Anderson‘s fashion world movie with Daniel Day-Lewis are ready.
