Nicolas Cage Turned Down Cameo In 'Master Of None' Season 2

**Spoilers ahead**

Among the many, many treasures to be found in “Master Of None” season two, “New York, I Love You” is particularly special. The episode is notable for focusing on an array of characters that would usually not amount to much more than window dressing. Framing it all is “Death Castle,” a movie within the show “starring” Nicolas Cage, Tyrese Gibson, and Emma Watson that nearly everyone refers to at one point or another, before most of the players sit in the cinema at the end of the episode watching the much-hyped film.

As it turns out, Cage could’ve made the closing moments a little more meta, by making a voice appearance in the fake flick. “I think we did go out to Cage and quickly received a ‘…no,’ ” Ansari told Indiewire.

So, with Cage out of the mix, who stepped in?  “….that’s Andy Samberg doing Nicolas Cage in ‘Death Castle’! I still haven’t heard from Tyrese and Emma Watson about whether they were fired up to star in ‘Death Castle,’ but I hope they’re psyched. Tyrese and Emma are both friendly with me and I figured it would be a fun shout-out to give them. Nicolas Cage, I don’t know,” Ansari told Vulture.

Too bad about Cage, but Samberg is an inspired replacement, especially given that he frequently impersonated the actor on “Saturday Night Live.”

“Master Of None” season 2 is now on Netflix.
