Nicolas Winding Refn Presents Series To Re-Release Ryuichi Sakamoto's Score To ‘Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence’

Nicolas Winding Refn has been fulfilling the dreams of film and music buffs with his vinyl reissues of soundtracks from “Oldboy,” “It Follows,” and “The Terminator,” and now he’s set to re-release the score for a classic film starring David Bowie.

Directed by Japanese director Nagisa Oshima, “Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence,” is a 1983 Pacific War drama starring Bowie, Ryuichi Sakamoto and Tom Conti, and the soundtrack is getting a vinyl soundtrack reissue through Milan Records as part of the “Nicolas Winding Refn Presents” series. Due for release on October 21st, the LP will include Sakamoto’s full score on 180 gram vinyl. Renowned Belgian artist Laurent Durieux has contributed a compelling cover design for the soundtrack.

A month earlier on September 23rd, Milan Records will also release Sakamoto’s soundtrack for the 2015 film “Nagasaki: Memories of my Son.” The composer worked with director Yoji Yamada to create music evocative of Japan’s modern spirit and rich history.
