Obi-Wan Kenobi Spinoff, 'Justice League' Headaches [Podcast]

Welcome to another edition of The Playlist Podcast, a discussion about film news and other film and television related items.

On this episode, I’m joined by Playlist Editor-in-Chief Rodrigo Perez to discuss a couple of news items, but the bulk of our discussion centers around the announcement of a solo Obi-Wan Kenobi movie that’s in the works. Stephen Daldry (“Billy Elliot,” “The Hours“) is set to direct, which is where our discussion starts, as we wonder if Lucasfilm will find themselves in another situation of reshoots in regards to another out-of-the-box director choice. We then move to speculating what the film will be about, if Ewan McGregor will return to the role, and, frankly, whether or not this movie is truly necessary.

Then it’s onto the latest “Justice League” rumors, which is mostly about Casey Affleck mentioning in an interview that Ben Affleck will out as Batman after “Justice League” is done. We also comment on the remarks that Batman will be more like the character in the comic pages, which we note seems to be a reaction to the toxic “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” reviews. Finally, we weigh in on director Jordan Vogt-RobertsTwitter storm about the YouTube channel CinemaSins. The “Kong: Skull Island” director lashed out on the social media site against the channel, claiming their brand is not satirical, is nitpicky, and called them the “Seltzer and Friedberg of YouTube channels.”
