Owen Wilson And Ed Helms Look For Their Long Lost Dad In First Trailer For 'Bastards'

“I’ve always been interested in comedies with a little bit more on the bone than a lot of laughs and something that speaks with some emotional truth,” Lawrence Sher, a longtime cinematographer turned directors told USA Today. “Particularly as we reach middle age, we often look to our parents and our family as to what the hell went wrong here.”

A veteran who’s worked on comedies like “Garden State,” “War Dogs” and “The Dictator,” Sher’s transition from DOP to helmer is for “Bastards” a new “Wedding Crashers”/“The Hangover”—esque comedy starring Ed Helms, Owen Wilson and J.K. Simmons. The film centers on two fraternal twin brothers who hit the road in order to find their father, after learning that their mother had been lying to them for years about his alleged death. The potentially very silly twist? One of the dad’s may be former footballer Terry Bradshaw.

“It’s people reconnecting, and that’s just a theme that I love,” said Ed Helms. “[Wilson and I] really found an awesome connection working together.” Ok, great, but not sure that January date is much of a vote of confidence. But hey, judge for yourself.

Co-starring Ving Rhames, Katt Williams, Terry Bradshaw, and Glenn Close, “Bastards” opens on January 27, 2017. Watch the first trailer below.
